I was in for a cleaning and the female hygenist took it upon herself to include a polishing as part of the procedure. I remember noticing that when I initially sat down in the chair, the polishing wand was already out, on a small side table that had already been wheeled up to the chair, as if it had recently been used for another patient (which I now even more firmly believe to be the case.) 

The polishing tool is mostly one long black handle, connected to an electric cord, so while the polishing part may have been new and/or cleaned, the handle part is not something I believe that they detach and put in an autoclave or replace. It’s only the handle though, right? Wrong! The problem is that the way the hygenist used this tool, the handle was resting and rubbing against the right side of my open mouth the entire time while she moved the head around inside.

The next day it was painful in that exact spot (which is the sign of the onset of herpes) and the day after that came the herpes blisters. I considered suing but didn’t for a couple of reasons, first, the ugliness of it is so embarassing that I couldn’t deal with the idea of taking photos of it. Plus I imagined that some other documentation would be needed, like a medical affidavit and by the time a doctor could fit me in I imagined the blisters would probably no longer be supperating and so maybe no culture could be taken. Also, herpes is so ubiquitous that I could also imagine how their defense would be, how could I prove I didn’t already have it? (In retrospect, I think the legal burden would be on them to prove that I did already have it, so that was my mistake).   I wish I did sue. I still suffer recurrances and it’s both painful and embarassing.  I can assure you that I got this herpes from Wayne Sutton DDS as I live alone, had no mouth contact with anyone for a very long time prior, and suffered this first outbreak right after exposure to that tool rubbing up against me, a tool that looked like it had just been used on someone else.   They didn’t clean this wand and the hygenist at Wayne Sutton’s dental office was totally negligent. I hope they suffer the payback someday that they deserve from their negligence in infecting their patients with an incurable contagious disease, one that’s now been linked to causing Alzheimer’s later in life.

My office practices exceptional serilization techniques and we have never had a single issue or comlaint in my 11 years of practice at this location.
